NHS dental care
In Scotland, everyone is entitled to free NHS Dental exams regardless of your age or if you normally pay for your dental treatment or not.
At your NHS Dental check up we will:
- Examine your teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy
- Thoroughly check your mouth for cancer
- Ask about and give advice on your diet and oral hygiene habits
Preventive Dentistry
Preventive dentistry is the modern approach to reducing the amount of dental treatment required to maintain a healthy mouth and help keep your teeth for life.
Tooth loss primarily results from gum disease and decay. A proactive approach to the management of these causes therefore increases the opportunity for prevention
Hygienist
Sometimes brushing and flossing is not enough to remove tough stains and plaque from your teeth. Our hygienist will remove these and advise you on how best to maintain your oral hygiene.
Fillings
Dental amalgam is the traditional silver-coloured filling we are all familiar with. Although there is mercury in dental amalgam, once it is combined with the other materials in the amalgam filling its chemical nature is changed rendering it harmless.
Amalgam fillings are provided through the NHS for posterior teeth composite fillings are considered to be cosmetic and therefore a private treatment.
Root canal treatment
Root canal treatment involves the removal of the pulp tissues from the tooth in the event that it gets infected or inflamed.
Dentures
A denture is a removable prosthesis used to replace missing teeth. Commonly referred to as false teeth, a denture is usually made of acrylic or a combination of acrylic and metal.
Fissure sealants
Fissure sealants are plastic coatings that are painted on to the grooves of the back teeth which help to protect the tooth from decay.
